Lightspeed Alert Wins Prestigious Award for Student Safety at Bett UK Conference

London, England // April 07, 2023 – Lightspeed Systems® is proud to announce that its threat detection solution for schools, Lightspeed Alert™, has won the prestigious 2023 Bett Award in the Wellbeing, Digital Wellness, and Safeguarding Resources category. This award recognises Lightspeed Alert’s ability to help schools and multi-academy trusts (MATs) prevent suicide, self-harm, bullying, and violence by detecting early warning signs on school-owned devices and learning platforms.

Statistics have repeatedly shown that artificial intelligence (AI) digital platforms provide early warning signs of student crisis, indicating a pressing need for effective protective measures in our schools. As more and more school devices are placed in the hands of students, educators and administrators are turning to Lightspeed Alert to ensure that they are doing everything possible to safeguard the physical and mental well-being of their students.

“It’s a huge honour to be recognised by the judging panel for Lightspeed Alert’s ability to safeguard students on digital devices,” says Colin McCabe, International Director for Lightspeed Systems. “Lightspeed’s mission is to provide safe, secure, and equitable education experiences for students, and this matters most when providing proactive insights into concerning behaviour allowing us to help schools intervene before an incident occurs.

The Bett Awards celebrate the inspiring creativity and innovation that can be found throughout technology for education. Lightspeed’s product was judged by experienced teachers with outstanding information and communication technology (ICT) knowledge and understanding, education consultants and advisers, and high-profile ICT journalists. Bett’s judges measured Lightspeed Alert’s benefits to schools, its cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and level of support following which it was deemed to be a standout within the sector and selected as a winner.

The Bett Awards were announced at Bett UK, an annual conference series hosted in London, UK for the global community of education technology. During the show, Lightspeed received the following feedback from the Bett Awards’ judges: “The Lightspeed Alert product is innovative, utilising technology to alert the relevant people of potential safeguarding issues before it’s too late. It focuses on secondary response to wellbeing issues as a preventative measure for young people in crisis—going beyond just advising learners on keeping safe, it helps to get inside their thought processes in order to actually keep them safe.”
